This is one of my favourite books from this period in history. I agree with your comment about the way the author uses his own experiences to describe Germany during that time.

He does not need to tell us literally how Germany was at that moment.

It was a great book to read. It’s a shame that we forget Germany was a country that many people, including the British, loved and moved to before war started. Isherwood, although he wrote many books is relatively unknown so amazon may be you best bet if you are looking for a copy! 🙂
